WHO WE ARE
Welcome to Fall Creek Abbey!
We are Beth and David Booram,
the primary stewards of the Abbey.
Having grown up in Indianapolis, we possess a deep love for this city, its people, and its gifts. With over 40 years in vocational ministry, we’ve experienced the joys and heartache of serving those seeking to live well the one precious life God has entrusted to them.
Our great joy at Fall Creek Abbey is to live a life that is right-sized for our season; one where small things are cherished, slowness is a virtue, and solitude is a welcomed relief from a busy, noisy world.
This was a major theme when God prompted us to launch the Abbey in 2011. As its hosts, we’ve currently welcomed more than ten thousand guests to this still point in our city where individuals step away from the responsibilities of life and reorient their heart to the loving heart of God.
As trained spiritual directors, we spend a good deal of our days sitting with women and men who want to hear God’s voice of invitation and respond whole-heartedly. We both feel as if we’ve come home to a ministry posture we were made for. From the beginning of the Abbey, we began training others in this quiet ministry of spiritual direction.
Since 2012, we’ve had the great joy to facilitate the Fall Creek Abbey School of Spiritual Direction, hosting yearly cohorts of gifted men and women who are now scattered all around the country offering loving presence to God’s people.
Beth is the author of four books, including, Starting Something New: Spiritual Direction for Your God-given Dream, where she tells the story of Fall Creek Abbey. David and Beth published their first book together, When Faith Becomes Sight: Opening Your Eyes to the Presence of God All Around You, in 2019 through InterVarsity Press and recently have written Prayers at Twilight: Daily Liturgies for the In-between Times, Wisdom for Old Souls: Ecclesiastes Transposed from the Voice of the Eternal, Examen Qs and Couples Qs with Fall Creek Abbey Press.
David has his M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and previously was the founder and President of Direction 4 Life Work, offering college and career counseling. (If you are looking for career counseling, reach out through the contact page and David will be happy to introduce you to Wes Cate or Sonja Greiwe who are taking on his clients.)
Both Beth and David received their training in spiritual direction through Sustainable Faith, an organization with more than 20 training sites around North America and Europe. We owe a debt of gratitude to Sustainable Faith who served as a supportive presence during the first six years of Fall Creek Abbey’s life.
